The Free Plan for sync licensing opportunities

These are the details on the Free Plan for Sync Licensing Opportunities. We offer three plans:
1. Free Plan: Zero money out of pocket. No strings. No gimmics.
2. Professional Plan: This plan includes many extrememly useful add-ons that will make your life much easier.
3. Elite Plan: Everything the Professional plan offers plus more.

The Free Plan gives you 20 uploads and our secured songwriter dashboard. The dashboard includes: the following menu driven utilities.

  1. The song library: View, Edit, Delete any song you have uploaded.

  2. Upload Music: This allows you to upload your .mp3 files to us. It includes the Add/Edit Metadata popup. See below for the details.

  3. Sync Opportunities: Lists current sync licensing opportunities that are available to apply your songs to. This is in our navigation bar on all plans. However, this is not available for the Free plan.

  4. My Pitch Activity: View all of the songs we have submitted on your behalf, time and date stamped.

  5. Pitch Packages: This is available on the Pro and Elite packages. If you submit songs for more than one opportunity, we package them and you can view the packages here.

  6. Submission Agreement: This is the legal agreement that a new member must sign for Songwriters Portal to be able to submit music on your behalf.

  7. Billing: View your payment history. Does not apply to the Free plan.

  8. My Profile: Allows you to maintain your profile.

  9. Change Password: Just what it means.

  10. Help Center: Search for topics you need help with.

  11. User Manual: All topics and categories covered.

  12. Knowledgebase: Q & A for questions already asked.

With the Free plan, you have to enter all Metatag Data yourself. See below for an explaination if you are not familiar with Metadata.

For a songwriter that is new to sync licensing, the Free plan may be a good place to start. However there are considerations. Read more below.

What to Expect with the Free Plan

If you are new to Sync Licensing, it is very different from song distribution. As you probably know, with song distribution, you just upload your song to a company and that's it. They "pitch" your song(s) to music industry professionals.

Uploading your songs for sync licensing opportunities is very different. First, I will explain how it works.

Sync licensing has been around for a long time and has pretty much been a "closed off" part of income opportunities for songwriters. That is changing.

There exists many catalogs out there that "music supervisors" search to find music tracks for a new TV series, as an example. They search these catalogs using "Metatag Data". Metatag data is made up of different categories of information about the song that you are uploading. These include: Genre, Mood/Feel, Instruments, Lyric Themes, Type, Vocals, etc.

So, when you upload a song for a sync opportunity, you must include all of this data with the song. You also must include the artwork for the song, title, artist name, ISRC number, BPM, tempo, composer name, and more. It can be quite time consuming.

With the Free plan, you must enter all of this data manually. Many songwriters skip the entry of this vital information. When this happens, the music supervisors will not be able to find your music in their catalog, so you are wasting your time and ours.

If you will enter all of the Metadata, that is great. No worries. I am just laying it out there for you so you will know what to expect in the long run. The Free plan is great, provided you are willing to do the work for each song you upload.

However, there is an alternative. If you can afford to spend $9 per month, you don't have to enter the Metadata. Our paid plans include features, one of them being, AI will scan you song and enter all Metadata Tags for you and is more accurate than you can be.

Then, we come to "instrumental tracks". You always want to include an instrumental with your full song along with 10 and 30 second clips. 90% of the background music heard in TV and Movies is instrumental. With the Free plan, you must provide your own instrumental. Again, the paid plans include automatic generation of the instrumental versions of your songs.

The generation of the 10 & 30 second clips of your song are included with the Free plan.

So, you can start with Free and when you are comfortable with the process, upgrade to the Pro plan at $9 per month. Or, save yourself hours of work and start out with Pro. I am not trying to "upsale" you. I am educating you on the process of song submission for sync opportunities.
